The Department of Student Services was put in place as a resource for students to ensure the ability for academic success and well being of those on campus. Essentially, DSS takes ideas from students, faculty, and organizations, and puts them into action through the work of its various committees. DSS is made up of several committees: Special Programs, Online Services, Campus Safety, Student Programs. - Special Projects: Special Projects is responsible for exploring new ideas and proposals for projects relating to student services or concerns around campus. This group will work closely with out with outside groups, administrators, and other committees in the exploring and implementation of these new ideas. Examples of these kinds of projects include basketball ticket pick-up, developing plans for a new campus map, planning the Fall Activities Mart, etc. - Online Services: Online Services works with the Web Programmer and the Student Design Center to maintain and develop all web services for students while working with the Special Projects Committee. Our current services are: offcampus.missouri.edu; the MSA website; Zoupedia; and campus map development. - Campus Safety: Campus Safety is responsible for responding to student concerns regarding safety, and working with administrators and students to proactively identify ways to develop campus safety resources. This includes finding funding and locations for new emergency phones, designating pedestrian walkways, improving campus lighting, and organizing the bi-annual Safety Walk. - Student Programs: Student Programs works closely with all the internal workings of MSA and DSS. This includes actively engaging MSA auxiliaries to better determine and meet student needs and working to meet those needs more effectively. These auxiliaries include STRIPES, the Student Design Center, the Craft Studio, and Student Legal Services. Also included in this committee’s responsibilities is overseeing various co-programs such as the College Readership Program with USA Today and the Department of Student Life. DSS also contains four auxiliaries which act independently of the department and report to different supervisors in Student Life, but are funded through DSS and are still subsidiaries of the department. Auxiliaries: - STRIPES - Craft Studio - Student Design Center - Student Legal Services |
